HONOR, FORTITUDO ET PERSEVERANTIA

The Gladius is known in Latin as a 'sword'. This is how the term gladiator (male) and gladiatrix (female) was named. We are the modern day 'swordsman and woman'.

Etched on each challenge coin is the phrase 'Honor, fortitudo et perseverantia'. These are Latin words translated as honor, strength and loyalty. These values are close to my heart, therefore the coins represent who we are, could and should be.

COIN OF HONOR

The idea of honor was once the guiding principle of every aspiring gladiator. For the gladiator who possessed no material wealth, even his life was not his own and all he had was his self-respect. How he chose to live and to die in those final moments of his life, was the measure of his honor. His honor to himself, his comrads and to family were upheld.

COIN OF STRENGTH

'Fortitudo' carries the deeper meaning of strength that the gladiators embodied. A gladiator's strength was not only his ability to fight adversity, but his courage to find inner strength to support his comrades who fought by his side. The lion’s head is associated with the representation of strength. If the lion appears powerful to you, its presence can be interpreted as a positive representation of your self-confidence and personal power. As such, lions point to qualities of strength, courage and assertiveness.

COIN OF LOYALTY

The final coin will represent the value of loyalty, a word which has lost its true meaning over time. As we live in this modern world, we have become distracted and often forget where our loyalties lay. Therefore, my coin tags the Latin words 'honor fortitudo et perseverantia.' This translates to honor, integrity, virtue, loyalty, courage, strength. determination, perseverance and honesty. We should begin our journey to uphold these values.

SPARTAN SERIES

On one side sees the words, 'Molon Labe', meaning 'come and take [them]', is a classical expression of defiance. It is among the laconic phrases reported, said in reply to the demand by Xerxes 1 that the spartans surrender their weapons. The rest is history....

Lambda

One side represents a shield, etched is the Lambda. Ancient Spartans decorated their shields with Lambda, the Greek capital letter “L” as a symbol for Lacedaemon, the ancient Hellenic word for the Spartan City-State. The Lambda on the shield is illustrative of the light shining down on the field.

VIRTUS ET HONOS

These principles guide one's actions and shape their character. With virtus, one strives for excellence in all endeavors, constantly seeking to improve and grow. Honor, on the other hand, embodies integrity and a strong moral compass, ensuring that one's actions are always guided by what is right and just. Together, virtus and honor create a strong foundation for a noble soul to navigate through life's challenges and make a positive impact on the world around them.

‘Fortitudo Et Honor' is written on this coin, which translates to ‘with Strength and Honor.'

V3 centers on an eagle poised to swoop down on its prey. The reverse side features two Gladius swords, ready for battle, as the eagle lands, representing you.
